Located in Gussie Field Watterworth Park, the National EarthKind™ Trial Rose Garden is the flagship of environmental horticultural research for the country. One hundred rose cultivars will be evaluated in four randomized replicated plantings. The research is part of a program that includes four countries, seven universities and 20 states.

The goal is to identify a collection of roses that will grow across the country with cultural practices that are environmentally responsible. Gussie Field Watterworth Park is located at 2610 Valley View Lane, across from Oran Good Park and near Farmers Branch City Hall. Also located at this site are display gardens. Included are the All-America Rose Selection award winners from 2002.

Grown in the traditional manner, the rewards are blooms worthy of tabletop centerpieces. The central section of the garden showcases roses recommended by noted local rosarians for use in North Central Texas. These include modern hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, climbers, miniatures and David Austin roses.
